A swimming instructor supporting a young swimmer in the pool

Confidence. Safety. Skill. Stroke development.

Structured swimming support for children and adults, delivered through schools, estates and community venues with care, patience and clear progression.

A positive relationship with the water starts with calm coaching and the right next step.

The AMI approach

Built around people, not a generic programme.

AMI Swimming meets each swimmer at their current ability. Lessons are grouped by age, stage and confidence, then developed through observable skills rather than a one-size-fits-all timetable.

What it supports

Purpose in every session.

01

Water confidence

Positive, well-paced experiences help swimmers become more comfortable in and around the pool.

02

Breath and body control

Breathing, submersion, floating and body position create the foundation for effective movement.

03

Progressive technique

Kicking, propulsion and stroke skills are introduced in a sequence the swimmer can understand.

04

Individual attention

Lower coach-to-swimmer ratios support observation, encouragement and useful correction.

05

Visible progress

Ability grouping, attendance, skill checklists and term snapshots make development easier to follow.

06

Clear communication

Parents, schools and venues receive practical information about sessions, progress and next steps.

Programmes and formats

Choose the right way to take part.

Foundations

Learn-to-Swim

Water orientation, breath control, floating, submersion and early propulsion for children or adults building the fundamentals.

Develop

Stroke development

Technique, core strength, swimming-specific movement and endurance for swimmers ready to refine their strokes.

Schools

School swimming programmes

Structured delivery for a school timetable, with ability grouping, communication and practical progress feedback.

Communities

Estate and venue lessons

Parent-paid or community programmes delivered at approved pools and participating AMI locations.

When needed

Dry-land alternatives

Appropriate movement, technique and water-awareness activities when an in-pool lesson cannot proceed.

Keep informed

Progress communication

Parent-friendly feedback, term snapshots and optional certificates or level recognition.

A clear learning pathway

From first confidence to stronger technique.

The pathway is adapted to the swimmer, but the progression remains easy to understand.

  1. 1Water orientation
  2. 2Breath control and submersion
  3. 3Floating and body position
  4. 4Kicking and propulsion
  5. 5Beginner stroke development
  6. 6Stroke refinement
  7. 7Endurance and technique
  8. 8Confidence in deeper water

How progress is followed

Initial ability grouping, attendance, skill checklists, term progress snapshots, parent-friendly feedback and optional certificates or level badges.

A responsible safety message

Lessons build skill, confidence and safer behaviour around water. They cannot remove aquatic risk or guarantee water safety.

Who it is for

Useful for individuals. Stronger in communities.

Children

Age- and stage-appropriate coaching that builds confidence without rushing progression.

Adults

Supportive instruction for adults starting from the beginning or improving existing skills.

Schools

A structured programme that can work with school timetables, facilities and parent communication.
